Bai Lu Takes the Lead in Modern Romance Drama “Kai Dao Tu Mi”

Bai Lu has finally kicked off a new drama, her first drama since parting ways with the agency she spent a decade with. The drama, adapted from the novel The Last Blossom (开到荼蘼) by Yi Shu, is considered a departure from the costume dramas that have defined much of her career. Directed by Li Muge, the series is set in the 1990s and follows Wang Yunna, a woman who is devastated by betrayal and imprisonment before eventually returning for revenge. Bai Lu is credited under her birth name, Bai Mengyan, leading the drama alongside Hong Kong actress Samantha Ko and Chang Huasen. Peng Guanying, who plays the man responsible for turning the heroine’s life upside down, is listed as a special star, despite the importance of his role. Maggie Huang Mengying is also part of the cast. Filming officially started in Foshan on July 24, 2026. Bai Lu will portray a dramatic change in appearance, from an innocent young woman with long black hair to a cool and controlled woman with short hair in the revenge arc. However, fans were quick to criticize Wang Yunna’s wig and clothing featured in photos from the set and have been calling for the look to be changed. Nevertheless, the short hair seems to be an unavoidable part of the role, as it is part of the plot, though production has reportedly agreed to adjust the styling. In Kai Dao Tu Mi, the story follows Wang Yunna, who is left emotionally scarred by a past relationship. Seven years later, she returns to the country and meets Zuo Wensi, a rising star in the fashion world. The two later get engaged, but she Contemporary Romance Novels soon discovers that Zuo Wensi’s brother-in-law is her (former lover|ex-lover|previous lover}, Teng Haiqi. Apparently, the original novel combines suspense, melodrama, romance, and tragedy, and even features a murder as part of its darker storyline.
